Traditional ploughman using donkeys yoked together to prepare the field for planting. This traditional technique is used even today as tight layered terraces prevent tractors from working the mountainside.

Marrakech, known widely as the red city is a feast for the senses! Here I have tried to capture the vibrancy and colours of the wool section of the medina.

This beautiful traditional home was sadly very damaged in the recent earthquake though thankfully the family were fine. This painting was originally intended as a children's book illustration hence the slightly cartoony style.

Another Scottish scene! as a mountaineer I have spent lots of time exploring the highlands, here I have experimented with a looser painting style to capture the dampness of the scene.

Under the clouds with the corn blowing in the rays of light this village sitting peacefully in the foothills of the Atlas mountains inspired this painting acrylic on paper.

A young girl standing at the door of her mountain village home. Traditional wooden painted doors like this are a rare find with most people replacing them with more practical but less aesthetic metal!

Traditional weaving is an incredible art form, I have had the privilege of watching many times. This picture captures a lady at work making a large rug. I have mixed watercolours with thread on cloth to try and capture some of the different textures of the scene.

A woman and her daughter head home from market. At the end of spring the wheat fields are ready for ploughing and poppies and wild flowers abound. People still travel long distances by foot/ donkey/ transit to go to the weekly markets in the foothills of the high Atlas.

Tafroute

Climbing the blue painted rocks of Tafroute, The yellow of the climbers shirt and rope contrasting the blue and pink rocks made for a delightful colour filled scene!

On Friday afternoon beggars gather outside the walls of this beautiful mosque. They are collecting alms and food from the worshipers as they enter to pray. I love the elaborate detail of the tiles here.

Nestled in the backstreets of Marrakech's medina are some of the most elaborate doorways you could hope to find! outside this one a woman sits selling fresh sweet oranges,

Women climb the steep mountain to collect firewood to burn in the 'Takat' a traditional clay oven in order to make the daily bread.
